Aside from making T-shirts that are supremely soft and comfortable, this enables farmers to grow food crops on the same land without risking the health of their families, due to toxic residues associated with industrial cotton.

All cotton requires large quantities of water to grow. However, industrially grown cotton is intensively irrigated and liberally applied with pesticides and chemical fertilisers that pollute water supplies, diminish soil structure and cause numerous health problems.

The 100% organic cotton used to make KragRags T-shirts, grows in the Monsoon belt of NW India, where there is a bountiful supply of rain water. The only thing added to the soil is farmyard manure, that enriches the soil, improves water retention and avoids the health problems caused by intensive farming techniques.

Our garments are made using green, renewable energy (wind and solar), with azo-free dyes that are permitted under the Global Organic Textile Standards. All seams are double stitched and production complies with the Fair Wear Foundation Code of Labour Practices, in accordance with the International Labour Organisation’s conventions. ie No poorly paid sweatshop labour.

Our garments travel to the UK by sea, avoiding the higher CO2 emissions of air transport. Then our designs are all individually, silk screen printed by hand, under the watchful eye of our in-house graphic designer, using inks free of PVC and phthalates. All finishing is done in the UK, with great care and attention to detail. We avoid waste by producing small quantities, effectively making each T-shirt a limited edition print.

KragRags clothes are as individual as the person who wears them and are designed to project YOUR identity, not ours. So our T-shirts are typically understated on the front, with discrete high quality labels stitched to the hem.

Our “Climbing Pro” design is available in colours: Slate Moss in “Classic Fit” (chocolate loving) and Glacial Lake, Blue Sky or Black Slate in “Slim Fit” (figure hugging) sizes S, M & L. Also available for men here.

Under the organic standard, farmers and agricultural workers are protected by stringent social criteria, total traceability across the entire supply chain, and also by the ban on the use of poisonous chemicals that can severely damage the health of farmers and their families.

We think it is worth paying a little more to ensure these standards are met. And we think most climbers and outdoors enthusiasts do too. We want to create distinctive products that will stand the test of time but not cost us the Earth.

When we’re not out climbing, we’re developing new designs for men and women and we will be introducing KragRags for children too.

The vast majority of cotton garments bought throughout the world are made from non-organic, industrially processed cotton. Sadly, a lot of bad things happen to people and the planet so that folk can buy cheap T-shirts.

Like most people, we didn’t realise this until we started researching. The more we looked into the textile industry and manufacturing in general, the more appalled we became. So much so, that we nearly gave up.

But we were determined to find an ethical and ecologically friendly way to make clothes for climbers and it has taken two years to establish the ethical supply chain for KragRags.

Of course nobody is perfect. We all do harm by simply driving to the crag, or catching a CO2 producing flight. Even the fiercest eco warriors can’t prove that the precious metals in their mobile phones, or laptops weren’t dug out of the ground by a child in Chile.

But in creating KragRags, we have done our best to avoid doing harm from the outset. What do we mean by harm? Well, there’s lots more information out there but this video link gives a taste of the real price of industrially grown, pesticide intensive cotton and the reasons for avoiding it.

KragRags® is a Registered Trade Mark. Our unique “Climbing Pro”™, “Matterhorn” and “Boulderer” designs are protected under the international laws of Copyright.
